Captain Chainsaw aka, Dave King is a Sculptor and Woodcarver of great versatility and vision, with many years experience. He lives and works, with his partner Clare - the Pirate, in a small-holding in Wales surrounded by the wild and woolly Radnorshire Hills.
Dave likes to work with the rarer and consequently harder to find woods, for example; Walnut, Yew, Tulip, Mulberry, Black Poplar and all the Burr wood he can find. These woods are more versatile and stable. Please note that all the wood he uses is 'ethically' sourced, i.e. dead, down or dangerous and, due to the huge trunks he is now working, has also started to trade or sell some burr woods.
His work includes small garden pieces, Hares, Hedgehogs and Mushrooms etc. to the very large, Bears, Gorillas, Dragons and recently even a Duck-billed Platypus. See the slideshow page for many more examples. He has just completed a large Oak Dragon bench (click-on image left) bought by the Natural Trust and to be sighted above Beddgelert Lake to mark the legendary battle between the Red Dragon of Wales and White Dragon of England, Merlin saved the day as usual - more news to follow.
Dave works from home most the year, only taking 'time off' to display his work at shows up and down the country. These normally start in early summer at Wood Fest in North Wales and carry on through the year till Autumn. See contacts-page for show(s), details and email address. He also sells some work on the craft site Etsy, on-line shop 'WelshRareWoods', and tries to take on commissioned work over the winter months.
Comments and feedback appreciated,
thank you - Dave King.
